LearnBitcoin

Terms

The deal, in plain English.

The site exists to teach Bitcoin honestly. You can read it for free. You can copy it, translate it, remix it, run your own version of it. You cannot sue us for any of it.

That is most of it. The legal version follows.

The content is yours to use

All content is licensed CC-BY-SA-4.0. Use it, embed it, translate it, build on top of it. The only asks are attribution back to learnbitcoin.com and that your derivative is also CC-BY-SA. See How to attribute for the recommended format.

The site code is not currently open source. Maybe later. Reach out if you want to talk about it.

What this site is not

We teach. We do not advise. Specifically, nothing on this site is:

  • Financial advice.
  • Investment advice.
  • Tax advice.
  • Legal advice.

If you are about to make a decision involving meaningful money, talk to someone whose job is to be liable for that advice. We are not that person.

Bitcoin's price can go up. Bitcoin's price can go down. Self-custody is your responsibility. We do not custody your funds. We do not have access to anyone's keys.

No warranties

The site is provided as is. We aim for accuracy, we cite sources, and we correct mistakes when we find them. But: no warranty, express or implied, of any kind. If a number is stale, a tutorial breaks, a linked tool misbehaves, or your hardware wallet eats your coffee table, that is between you and the universe.

The on-chain numbers come from a full Bitcoin node, accessed via ChainQuery. We trust that more than we trust an exchange API. We still cannot promise it is right every second of every day. Verify, do not trust.

What we will not do

  • Impersonate any of you.
  • Change the meaning of pages without leaving a git diff.
  • Put up a cookie banner.
  • Insert affiliate links.
  • Sell, rent, or share data about you.

What you should not do

  • Scrape the site at a rate that knocks it over. Cloudflare will block you anyway, but please be polite.
  • Impersonate us. The name, branding, and "honest Bitcoin school" positioning are ours.
  • Republish content as your own original work. CC-BY-SA requires attribution; doing without it is a license violation.

Takedown or correction

If you think something on the site infringes your copyright, defames you, or is just wrong, email hello@learnbitcoin.com with:

  • The URL.
  • What is wrong.
  • A source for the correct version (if it is a factual issue).

Most fixes happen within days, in public, with a git commit. For serious legal claims, we will respond in writing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA. Any disputes go before the state and federal courts located in Connecticut. You agree to that jurisdiction by using the site.

Updates

These terms can change. When they do, the change lives in git history at the public content repo. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page for a while.
