Sergio Demian Lerner's count puts the Patoshi pattern at about 40 percent of the first 50,000 blocks, which is what ChainQuery's corrected story and the chapter now say.
What was wrong -
The swaps it covers, such as Loop In, Loop Out and PeerSwap, need on-chain transactions, on Bitcoin or, with PeerSwap, on Liquid; PeerSwap's protocol uses two per swap. They move balance from one side of a channel to the other, and the channel's total capacity stays the same. One way to rebalance that does stay off-chain is a circular payment to yourself through other nodes.
What was wrong -
Miners could signal for SegWit from November 15, 2016, and BIP-91 made every block signal from July 23, 2017, so the deadlock lasted about eight months. In May and early June 2017, only about 30 percent of blocks signaled for SegWit.
